ICANN GNSO Seeks Input on Latin Script Diacritics PDP Initial Report

12 January 2026

The Generic Names Supporting Organization Council of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers is seeking public comment on the initial report of the Latin Script Diacritics Policy Development Process Working Group.

This initial report contains 54 preliminary recommendations and implementation guidance items. These recommendations and items were created by examining the circumstance where a base American Standard Code for Information Interchange generic top-level domain (gTLD) and the Latin script diacritic version of the gTLD are not variants of each other. The Policy Development Process seeks to establish an appropriate mechanism that allows a single registry operator to simultaneously operate both gTLDs.

About ICANN

ICANN's mission is to help ensure a stable, secure, and unified global Internet. To reach another person on the Internet, you need to type an address – a name or a number – into your computer or other device. That address must be unique so computers know where to find each other. ICANN helps coordinate and support these unique identifiers across the world. ICANN was formed in 1998 as a nonprofit public benefit corporation with a community of participants from all over the world.
