ICANN 2030: Our New Strategic Plan

28 April 2025

The next five-year ICANN Strategic Plan will go into effect at the start of the new fiscal year on 1 July 2025, ushering in an exciting new phase for ICANN. I would like to encourage everyone to explore the new plan and learn how we intend to collectively realize our vision through 2030.

Strategic planning is an important aspect of ICANN's governance as it provides a clear path for long-term success. The ICANN Strategic Plan facilitates internal alignment, enhances decision-making, and improves resource allocation, allowing us to be proactive rather than reactive. The Board develops a new strategic plan every five years to define where we are now, where we are going, and how we will continue to fulfill our mission.

At the core of the ICANN Strategic Plan for Fiscal Years 2026–2030 is a bold, forward-looking vision statement that encapsulates where we would like ICANN to be by 2030:

As the trusted steward of the Internet's unique identifier systems, ICANN is dedicated to strengthening the single, globally interoperable Internet for all.

The ICANN Strategic Plan belongs to all of us, and each of us has a part to play in bringing our vision to life. The Board will review the plan annually and update it as needed to enable ICANN to respond to evolving challenges and opportunities. For an overview of the plan, please watch this short video featuring my colleagues Maarten Botterman and Chris Chapman, the Co-Chairs of the Board Strategic Planning Committee.

Thank you to everyone in the ICANN community, organization, and Board who contributed to the development of the new Strategic Plan. As the global community comes together to consider the future of Internet governance, we must seize this opportunity to strengthen our commitment to authentic multistakeholder participation. Together, we can achieve One World, One Internet.
